Gold mining in West Pokot centres on alluvial gold in the county's river systems and hard-rock potential in the hills around Kapenguria. Local miners pan and wash river gravels, and prospecting licence applications covering large areas of the county have been gazetted, a sign of growing exploration interest.
Below are the gold plots currently listed in West Pokot, each with its mineral right, land tenure and sample results.

Alluvial projects that can use wash plants, and earlier-stage exploration ground for investors comfortable with risk and longer timelines.
Much of the land is community land, so documented community consent and benefit-sharing are central to any deal. Alluvial grades are measured in grams per cubic metre of gravel, not grams per tonne of rock, so compare them carefully with reef grades.
Both occur. Most current small-scale work is alluvial, washing river gravels, while the hills hold hard-rock targets that need exploration drilling to prove.
Community land is held under the Community Land Act, and deals need the registered community's approval. Work with a Kenyan advocate to confirm who can sign before any money moves.
